08:20 pm - ouch After 2+ years of riding, I had my first real accident today. Was going to work, changed lanes to pass some stopped traffic, gave it a little too much throttle while riding over a wet, painted lane marker, and the rear stepped out and I low-sided. Was only going about 20mph so it wasn't major, but I have a skinned knee, sore wrist, and a motorcycle with a couple hundred dollars worth of scratches (mostly the fuel tank, the small parts are cheap).
Somebody stopped and helped me pick the bike up and it restarted without any problems. Drove it home, cleaned myself up, changed clothes and went to work in my car. I hope the wrist is just a slight sprain, the knee looks ugly but it'll heal no problem. Once I get my next paycheck I'll start ordering replacement parts and shopping for a new coat. The whole me/motorcycle healing process will take a month or two, just in time for spring and to start riding regularly again.

01:21 pm Its been about a month since my last post so I'm overdue for an update on the hand situation. I've had a brace/half-cast thing on for the past four weeks, and today I finally got it taken off.
I probably got my hopes up a little too high as to what I'd be able to do after the thing came off. I figured this week I'd be able to have regular meals (that require the use of a fork and knife), shower easily, tie my shows easily, play guitar, clean up my apartment, etc; but its been three hours and I'm not even close to being able to close my hand, let alone any of that other stuff. I guess the only thing to look forward to for today is taking a shower without having to wear a bag on my arm.
My arm looks all goofy as well. I have a tan line about midway through my forearm, then paleness all the way to my knuckles, and then even paler fingers because they're all dry and the skin keeps peeling off.

01:32 pm Home now. Tried riding the bike, but after a few blocks decided that that wasn't going to happen, I could just barely operate the clutch lever with the broken hand, but not well enough that I would feel safe for 200 miles (the majority of it was highway riding, so that would have been ok, but the stops for fuel, tolls, etc would have been awkward). I decide to bus it instead, which was an ordeal of its own and I got home four hours later than scheduled, but its over.
Here's probably the best x-ray picture, they gave them to me on CD rather than film for convenient posting.

I guess I can make a Bobbi-like icon soon.
All that's left for me now is to wait until tomorrow morning to start calling around for an orthopedic surgeon to fix this, because no insurance or healthcare people can be open on weekends. Maybe I'll get the prescription of Vicoden the hospital had written for me filled as well.

12:41 pm Of all the potential things I thought could go wrong on a weekend motorcycle trip, "slipping in my friends apartment and breaking two bones in my hand" was not one of them.
Getting home could be a little tricky.

10:11 pm - office Oh Pam, you're about a season too late getting your non-alcohol-induced backbone. You'd better hope Karen gets that job and not Jim. You need to work on saying what you want, I mean you can barely tell your real-life husband to stop with the anal sex:

09:21 pm - Two days later, still alive Finally got a motorcycle:

2001 Suzuki GS500E, ~11,000 miles, bought it on Tuesday.
Ridden it about 50 miles so far, I'm getting comfortable with commuting, but low speed, tight manuevers need a lot of work, and taking off from a stop got real sloppy today for some reason.
Issues that need to be taken care of immediately are a broken front turn signal, and no backlighting on the speedometer. Neither of the front signals work, but taking a look around earlier today I could only find a broken line on the left-hand one. Is it common for both signals not to function if one doesn't, or will I need to investigate further? For the speedo backlight, first I'm going to try changing the bulb and hopefully it'll be as simple as that.
The bike has an aftermarket exhaust on it, and I think I've decided that I don't care for it at all. Its too loud, and its not a particularly good sound, I would prefer a nice quiet stock one instead. So after the light issues are sorted out, I need to look into getting one to swap in.
